The New Mexico Medical Board has revoked the medical license of a Las Cruces neurologist who has been linked to at least 17 toxicity related deaths from prescription drugs.

Earlier this year, a 4 On Your Side investigation found Dr. Pawan Kumar Jain was the top prescribing doctor in the entire state, even out pacing the entire UNM Medical school combined in the number of prescriptions written to patients.

On Thursday a report presented by a Medical Board investigator stated that over the course of one year, Dr. Jain had prescribed over 3 million doses of controlled substances to 3,233 patients.

The report also found Dr. Jain had post dated prescriptions and at one point prescribed pain killers to a patient who had tested positive for cocaine.

Thursday afternoon the medical board voted unanimously to revoke Dr. Jain’s license to practice medicine in New Mexico and ordered him to pay 12,000 dollars in costs for his hearing.

Earlier this year the Drug Enforcement Administration raided Jain’s offices in Las Cruces.
