March special election could be costly

The Albuquerque city clerk started certifying petition signatures Wednesday to see if there were enough to hold a special election in March.
A special interest group wants voters to approve a measure that would require candidates for mayor and city council to get at least 50 percent of the vote to win.
The special election will have just that one question on it and could cost up to $750,000 to hold.
"I think it's ridiculous to spend that much money for just one question and I think it should possibly wait until there's either the primary election or put it on the ballot for that or something," Leticia Flores said.
"I think it's a lot of money and it could probably be used for something more beneficial to different things going on in the states and everything," Lauren Kesani said.
Petition spokesman Paul Broome said it should help ensure that someone with just minority support won't win an election.
