Some Albuquerque children got a little taste of an old fashioned Christmas Sunday.

The New Mexico Riders Association brought out horses and buggies filled with toys and gifts for the families staying at Joy Junction.

Santa Claus rode in to meet the families in person.

And the children got a chance to ride the horses.

"They're tickled to death, they love it, sometimes they don't want to get off the horse," James Lopez with the New Mexico Riders Association said.

Joy Junction Director Jeremy Reynalds says the holidays are one of the best times at the shelter because people from the community rally around those families.

He said the children always receive presets and people always volunteer more of their time.
