APS Superintendent Winston Brooks has issued a message on the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting last week in Connecticut.

Brooks, who heads New Mexico's largest school district, posted the message Monday on the APS website.

In it, Brooks moves to assure parents that the district is "doing everything we can to address and alleviate the understandably high levels of anxiety we face in our community today."

Brooks declines to address specific plans, but says parents should expect to see an increased police presence at schools.

He also says school guidance counselors are ready to offer any assistance necessary for staff or students.
