Winter storm bearing down on New Mexico

A winter storm bore down on New Mexico Wednesday, causing a number of school closings and delays.
The heaviest snow was expected to fall in the northern mountains closer to the center of the storm - snow won't be as heavy along I-40 or in Albuquerque.
However, the wind will blow the snow all over - reducing driving visibilities in the morning and early afternoon on I-40 between Gallup and Grants as well as the northern part of US-550.
A number of schools in the Four Corners areas are either closed or on a delayed schedule - check KOB's closing page for details.
The state Transportation Department says driving is especially tough in the Taos area on US 64 and on New Mexico 434 where plow drivers are reporting more than 8 inches of snow on the roadway.
Crews are plowing roads and spreading cinders as needed.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for northwestern and north central NM.
The wind late Wednesday morning through the late afternoon will make driving north-south more challenging due to strong crosswinds.
Blowing dust will be a problem in the south where there won't be snow or rain.
High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect for central, southern and eastern New Mexico.
