New Mexicans react to "world's end"

The end is supposedly near. New Mexico will see the end of the world at 4:11 a.m. - that is if you believe in the prediction based on the end of the Mayan calendar.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 scoured the city Thursday and did not find a single person prepping for doomsday.
But we did find a multi-day party in Fort Garland, Colorado. They are offering shelter, massages, and drum circles.
There are also a lot of "End of the World" parties posted on social media sites, but they are slated for Friday night. If the world does end when it's predicted to, then those parties won't happen.
But a lot of people in Albuquerque aren't giving in to the hype.
"It's kind of crazy because it's said every year, but the way I was raised is that...to me it's up to the man above," one man told KOB 4.
"I think the Mayans basically got tired of making the calendar, or they just came to an end of it, if you will," Albuquerque resident Cheryl Allen said.
KOB 4 spoke to a professor and Mesoamerican scholar at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Khristaan Villela is debunking the myth.
"The idea that something horrible would happen was based upon a misinterpretation of the ancient Mayan calendar," He said. "The Mayan calendar has no beginning and no end."
Villela said there are other Mayan calendars that go on for thousands of years, and that the end of this calendar does not mean the end of the world.
