LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police say a pilot escaped injury after his small plane went down south of Interstate 10 near the Las Cruces airport.

Captain Rich Libicer says it's still unclear if the plane crashed or had an emergency landing Friday night.

He says the single-engine plane went down about 3 miles from the airport.

Libicer tells the Las Cruces Sun-News that the pilot was the only person aboard and "was just shaken up" and suffered no injuries.

The name of the pilot wasn't immediately released.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the accident and will be conducting an investigation.
