St. Martin Hospitality Center serves Christmas breakfast to homeless

Members of both the Jewish and Episcopal communities came together to serve a Christmas breakfast to a couple hundred of Albuquerque's homeless.
St. Martin's Hospitality Center downtown does it six days a week, holidays or not. A pre-breakfast service considered both traditional and non-traditional at the same time led by Bishop Michael Vono. He was quick to remind everyone how much Jesus had in common with those in need here.
"One of the things that we remember in fact is that Jesus was homeless. Mary and Joseph had no place. No home. No shelter. He was born in a stable. Somehow it signifies to me that God is very attentive to those of us who kind of journey," Vono said.
A couple hundred people to feed this Christmas morning. St. Martin's Hospitality Director Linda Fuller said there are usually even more people on most days here.
"During the week we average about 350 to 400. Sundays and holidays of course are limited because buses don't run and then other places feed or have the shelters they can stay," Fuller said.
Besides nourishment and a place to come get out of the cold. Bishop Vono said they get the greatest necessity of all here.
"They receive love and they receive care and their human dignity is restored by those who are very attentive to their situation in life," Vono said.
