Year-round displays brighten local home

Christie McLaughlin and her husband have lived in their Northeast Heights home for eleven years. And each year, their home exudes plenty of color during the holidays.
But they always like to keep things fresh.
"We change it around. And we add new stuff every year. So it's just a matter of pulling everything out and saying, 'Ok, let's try this over here this year','' she said.
The Christmas decorations will stay up until January 5. But Christie said after that, Valentines Day is just around the corner. She and her husband set up decorations for Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and even a mini-carnival for Halloween, along with Christmas. She said they do it especially for their 12 grandchildren.
"When they come, and they're lucky enough to come during whatever specific holiday it is, we have everything decorated inside and out," she said.
Christie said one of the remarkable things for eleven years is that no decorations have been stolen or vandalized.
"We're very, very lucky. We live in a wonderful neighborhood, and all of our neighbors watch out for each other," she said.
Christie said for a new decoration next Christmas, her husband will make a 4x8 foot gingerbread house.
