ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A 14-year-old boy accused of killing his adoptive mom and sister in Tucumcari has pleaded not guilty to two first-degree murder charges.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that the teen waived his right to a preliminary hearing and arraignment that had been scheduled for Friday and instead had a lawyer enter his not guilty plea through court records.

The Associated Press is not identifying the teen because he is a juvenile.

Authorities say the teen stabbed his sister, 49-year-old Sherry Folts, and shot his mother, 67-year-old Sue Day, late last month in their home on the outskirts of Tucumcari.

The teen had been adopted by the family two years ago. The family has taken in dozens of foster children over the last several years.
