People driving in Northern New Mexico now have a new way to get to the west side of Santa Fe.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation says a new interchange at the junction of NM 599 and County Road 62 in Santa Fe is now open.

The newly-constructed bridge, ramps, and roundabouts give motorists a new and safer way to cross NM 599 to reach neighborhoods and facilities on the west side of the city.

The roundabouts are located on each side of the overpass on County Road 62, also known as Caja del Oro Grant Road.

Construction began in April of this year and is now substantially complete except for temperature-sensitive work scheduled for the spring and summer of 2013.

The project is managed by NMDOT District Five Project Engineer Habib Abi-Khalil, who also oversees the Moriarty Project Office.

The contractor is AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque.
