CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico state police are investigating the shooting death of a former law enforcement official who was elected as a Tucumcari city commissioner in March.

Capt. Jimmy Glascock says circumstances surrounding Daniel Lopez's death remain under investigation, but authorities are not searching for a suspect.

Lopez died at a hospital Sunday morning after police found him injured by a gunshot in his home Saturday night.

The Clovis News Herald reports that Lopez was a former state police captain stationed in Tucumcari and a former chief of the Tucumcari Police Department.
