For those who had the time, A trip up Sandia Mountain Monday couldn't have been a more perfect way to spend the last day of 2012.

The snow was still falling Monday afternoon at the Sandia Peak Ski Area, but not enough to open any more of their runs or lifts. Sandia saw a busy weekend. They were expecting more people Monday with the fresh powder overnight. Samuel Trujillo woke up and figured it was time to head up the mountain.

"There was some snow outside. I live up more towards the westside. It was a little flurry but I figured the mountain had got some good snow. I checked online and just the bunny lift was open. But I figured we could come out here and try get a couple good jumps in today yeah," Trujillo said.

Some of the most fun people were having wasn't even at the ski area. Whether flying on a saucer or sledding down on a toboggan, as long as there was snow almost anyplace on Sandia Mountain was a good place to be.

Reinhard Stotzer of Albuquerque was glad to have the day off. "It's fun out here. The kids are having a good time. It's nice. Probably the only chance that we might get to get some snow and get some sledding in," Stotzer said.

Samuel Trujillo was just happy to get back on his snowboard. "I know one thing: my favorite days are usually snow days. When I was younger. I think that's why I love coming out here and playing in the snow you know," Trujillo said.

Isaac Marquez brought both his kids. He even had to sled a little himself. "Oh it's nice up here. The kids were all excited. They woke up this morning and they talked me into coming out here so. It's a good day. Good New Year's Eve," Marquez said.
