Johnny Tapia's family and friends have set up an unique memorial at the late boxer's grave.

There is now a little boxing ring at Tapia's grave site in Albuquerque. The ring pays tribute to Tapia's successful career.

"Albuquerque meant so much," Jerry Padilla, Tapia's father, said. "Johnny always told me to give a shout out to say 'What's up Albuquerque?' He would always say that."

One Albuquerque city councilor had proposed renaming a community center in Tapia's honor, but the move was shelved after critics brought up concerns about Tapia's history of drug addiction and legal battles.

Tapia died in May of heart failure.
