Former Congressional candidate Gary Smith could be heading back to jail.
His former opponent, Janice Arnold-Jones, has new surveillance video of who she said is Smith outside her home, despite a court order to stay away from her and her Northeast Albuquerque home.
'It's not a pleasant way to enter the New Year. This is terror," said John Jones in an interview Tuesday evening.
Arnold-Jones’ husband said there’s no doubt in his mind that Gary Smith came back. Surveillance video from April shows a man taking an ice pick to the tires on vehicles parked in the Arnold-Jones driveway.
Arnold-Jones is Smith’s former Congressional Primary opponent.
Police arrested Smith last Friday. He posted a $5,000 bond using his property.
But now, a new surveillance video taped Tuesday morning at about 7:20 a.m. captured a red car pulling up curbside near the Arnold-Jones’ home.
"He evidently saw me,” said Jones. “The car started to back up, and as I round the end of my truck he zoomed past me in the street."
Smith told the Santa Fe Reporter that was him just driving by.
'I’d like to see him put away,” said Jones. “Right away, revoke the bond. Put him in jail, get a psychiatric [evaluation]. The man's a menace."
KOB Eyewitness News 4 went to Smith’s home Tuesday evening, but no one answered the door.
"We don't know what he's capable of,” said Arnold-Jones. “So I am much more careful about where I am, what my surroundings are, and I shouldn’t have to be."
Arnold-Jones said they’ve had 19 tires slashed. She says this isn’t dirty politics, it’s personal.
"Primary's gone,” she said. “The election was in November. This is January! I didn't win. What's the deal?"
APD Detective Lorenzo Garcia said he will be asking the judge handling the case to issue a warrant for Gary Smith’s arrest if he did in fact violate conditions of release. Garcia will ask for a higher bond.
APD will also look into another unconfirmed report of vandalism, possibly another tire slashing, Tuesday morning at the house of Smith’s former campaign manager.
