A Valencia County man is dead and investigators said his own son is the main suspect.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 spoke with the victim's fiancé, who was in the home when everything happened.
Robin Speir said she was already asleep by midnight on New Year's when her fiancé, 56 year old Henry Wrobel, and his son Michael got into an argument about Major, the family pet.
She said Michael was angry because the German shepherd snapped at him during the argument with his dad.
The fight escalated just after midnight when most people were celebrating the new year.
"Mike had come in to wake me up and say he had shoved his dad and he wouldn't get up," said Speir.
EMS crews couldn't help Henry, and he died.
The Valencia County Sheriff said there was enough evidence in the home to arrest Michael Wrobel on the spot, charging him with his dad's death.
According to Speir, Michael suffers from mental disabilities.
"He was bipolar and manic depressive and they were trying to get him on disability," Speir said.
She said Henry was trying to get his son some help.
"He let still him stay here because he was his son and he loved him," Speir said.
The family moved here from Illinois in August. It was supposed to be a fresh start for everyone, including Michael.
"What was he thinking, why would you do that to your dad?" asked Speir.
Speir said she has no choice but to start a new life alone, now that the one she loved is gone.
The Valencia County Sheriff's Office said based on the investigation and autopsy Wrobel could be facing anything from manslaughter all the way to first degree murder. In the meantime, he stays in jail.
