New Mexico welcomes federal OK for state-run exchange

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez's administration says New Mexico is on track to establish a health insurance exchange this year now that the federal government has given the green light to the state's plan for a clearinghouse to help small businesses and individuals buy affordable health coverage.
New Mexico received conditional approval from the federal government on Thursday for its plan for a state-run exchange.
Human Services Department spokesman Matt Kennicott said the administration will move forward with "a marketplace that is for New Mexicans, by New Mexicans and not a one size fits all approach from Washington, D.C."
The exchange is to be ready to enroll people starting next October and under federal law must be fully operating by January 2014.
