Nine months until Election Day and the race for Albuquerque mayor is already on.

Former city councilor and public safety officer Pete Dinelli is running.

Dinelli will make it official on Sunday at his home in Albuquerque.

He ran for mayor 24 years ago, but is trying his hand at the job again.

“I never have lost the desire,” he said. “The fire is very much alive and this has been an ambition of mine for at least 24 years.”

Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry could not be reached for comment to learn his plans for the election.

Several other people are still weighing a run for mayor.

The election is in October.
