Education commission to re-do charter school votes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The New Mexico Public Education Commission is planning to re-do its votes on the renewals of two Albuquerque charter schools after votes on the two schools were taken a day earlier than scheduled.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that the commission was scheduled to vote to renew the charters of North Valley Academy and Horizon Academy West, but the vote was held on Dec. 13 instead.
The decision to take the votes a day before they were scheduled was made with the approval of an assistant attorney general.
The move has brought criticism that the commission violated the state's Open Meetings Act.
