Names crop up in Albuquerque mayoral race

Former city councilor and candidate for Albuquerque mayor in 1989 will try for the office again in 2013.
Pete Dinelli told friends and family in front of his home Sunday why the 2013 campaign would be different.
"I'm a lot older and, hopefully, a lot wiser. What's different is that I think I'm the right man for the right time for the right job," Dinelli said.
Then came the points Dinelli planned to run on in 2013. He listed "indictments" against Mayor Richard Berry.
He called the current public safety issues with APD and the Department of Justice investigations over recent police shootings, a slow economy, an lawsuits the city has paid for issues under Mayor Berry.
He said public safety has a direct connection with losing jobs in the city and other businesses not wanting to come to Albuquerque.
Berry is currently returning from a family vacation and could not immediately comment on Dinelli's statements. Berry is also talking with his family about running for re-election.
As for other potential candidates for mayor, former lieutenant governor Diane Denish told KOB Eyewitness News 4 she would decide before the end of January if she planned on running. She also said she is not "afraid of a competitive race."
City councilor Ken Sanchez and U.S. Department of Agriculture Executive Terry Brunner both said they will decide before the end of January.
Former APD sergeant Paul Heh and Pastor Steve Smothermon of Legacy Church have not returned phone calls and emails about their intentions on running for 2013 mayor.
