Local students participate in 'Dognapping Workshop'

Some Albuquerque school kids became “doggie detectives” Tuesday, working to crack the case of a dog named Lucy. They also found out science can be fun.
It’s all part of a project sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories called “Dognapping Workshop”.
Students from Barcelona Elementary School were shown how to use science to gather clues to solve the “dognapping”. Sandia hopes the day will spark students’ interest in science.
“We’re trying to show these kids that science and using your senses to observe is still a very valuable tool,” Bill Hammetter, who helps run the project, told KOB Eyewitness News 4.
It appears to be working. Student Ashley Fregoso liked what she saw. “I also want to be a scientist when I grow up,” Fregoso said. “I see a lot of cool stuff that they do and I like them and I want to do that when I grow up.”
