Registered New Mexico sex offenders would be banned from social media websites, under a proposal in the state legislature.
Albuquerque Republican Rep. Nate Gentry's measure would prohibit sex offenders from using sites that minors can also access, like Facebook and Twitter.
A first offense would be a misdemeanor. Anything after that would be a felony.
Meanwhile, the state’s Attorney General laid out a plan to make sure New Mexico isn't a safe haven for sex offenders.
Gary King's legislative priorities include clarifying registry requirements for sex offenders who move in from other states.
Kin said he wants to close loopholes that allow sex offenders from other states to avoid registering here.
