'Bitter cold' front from Canada strikes New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A bitter cold front is continuing to make its way through New Mexico, likely dropping temperatures in some areas to more than 20 degrees below zero.
The National Weather Service says that temperatures are expected to reach 23 degrees below zero around Gallup and Raton on Saturday as part of a cold spell that will last until Wednesday.
Portions of the state's Bootheel and central New Mexico also are expected experience below zero temperatures.
The cold air is moving south from Canada and should bring below freezing temperatures in Albuquerque for four straight days.
Forecasters say snow showers are expected in northern and western New Mexico.
