The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection to the shooting death of his niece.

Andy Martinez, 51, of Hernandez, was arrested a manslaughter charge.

The arrest stems from a shooting incident Wednesday night, in which his niece, Crystal Maestas, 29, also of Hernandez, died from a single rifle shot.

Sheriff Thomas Rodella said the shooting occurred at a Prince Drive residence where both the accused shooter and victim both lived. He said the incident involved alcohol and family horseplay.

Deputies executed an arrest warrant issued by First Judicial District Judge Sheri Raphaelson, which calls for his release upon posting a $300,000 cash-only bond.

The charge against Martinez is pending in Rio Arriba County Magistrate Court.
