Ralph Shamas dies; was 5th District judge in NM

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - Ralph Shamas, a 5th Judicial District Court judge since 2005, has died after a monthlong battle with cancer.

He was 65.

Shamas died Thursday, said Tamra Gibson, officer manager for Ballard Funeral Home.

Shamas had a varied law practice that focused on representing individuals before being appointed a judge by then-Gov. Bill Richardson, the Roswell Daily Record reported.
