Albuquerque woman dies months after ex-boyfriend set her on fire

An Albuquerque woman who said she was followed by her ex-boyfriend, covered in lighter fluid, set on fire and tossed into car in June 2012 died on Thursday from her burns.
Clarence Ray Pergerson went before a Metropolitan Court judge Saturday for an open count of murder after Genevieve Fay died from injuries sustained in the arson assault.
On June 20, 2012, Pergerson poured flammable liquid on Fay and set her on fire in the 9600 block of 4th Street NW, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the criminal complaint, several witnesses told police they heard an explosion after the incident.
When authorities arrived on scene they found Fay screaming, 90 percent of her body covered in burns.
Pergerson was arrested on Interstate 25 near mile marker 219 when he crashed his pickup truck. He was found with burns on his hands and arms, several gas cans were found in his vehicle, according to the police report.
Nurses at the UNM Hospital Burn Victim’s Unit told police Fay suffered post traumatic stress disorder from the burn incident and would often repeat the story to nurses.
Pergerson’s bond is set at $1,000,000 cash only.
