LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The Las Cruces City Council will consider Tuesday whether to raise the salary of City Manager Robert Garza.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that the hike would raise Garza's salary to $166,000 and be part of proposed revisions to his contract that increase a requirement that he take a two-week vacation on consecutive weeks every year beyond the four weeks of annual leave he already receives.

Garza has been city manager for a little more than two years.

Initially getting a two-year contract when he began in January 2011, Garza's contract was extended three more years, and he was given a 5-percent raise - to $157,000 - a year ago.

He received favorable job performance reviews from the council.

Mayor Ken Miyagishima says Garza has earned new contract perks.
