Big Brother relationship gives back

An Albuquerque man is giving one child the opportunity to grow up knowing he'll always have someone by his side.
David McCreary has been a Big Brother for almost three decades and is certainly making an impact in at least one little boy's life.
He's this week's Hometown Hero.
"What should I call you? Sonsis or my little pipsqueak?" joked McCreary.
But to 11-year-old Sonsis Astor, he's just his Big Brother.
The two were matched by the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization four years ago. We caught up with them recently at Coronado Center, where they were out for a day of fun.
"We love going to the movies together, so we do that a lot. We both love to eat," McCreary said.
They both also help each other.
Sonsis says he's learned a lot from his Big Brother.
"Try something and never give up."
That's a motto McCreary seems to live by. He took on his first Little Brother nearly 30 years ago.
"I joined Big Brothers to help the young; the little brother. But, I realized I ended up getting as much or more out of it myself." McCreary added, "I don't have children of my own, so I feel this is a win-win situation."
For Sonsis, it's certainly a win.
"You get to have fun, you learn, they may help you out."
If you'd like to get involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters, they're having a free "Bowl For Kids Sake" event Saturday at Coronado Center. It's from 11-3.
