ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A bipartisan commission will meet in Roswell next month to consider candidates for a vacant state district court judgeship.

The Judicial Nominating Commission meets Feb. 14 at the Chaves County Courthouse to interview people who apply for the judgeship.

The vacancy was created by the death last week of District Judge Ralph Shamas, who had served on the 5th Judicial District Court since 2005.

The deadline is Feb. 7 for lawyers to apply for the judgeship.

The commission will recommend candidates to Gov. Susana Martinez for possible appointment to the court.
