Don’t be alarmed if you see an abundance of emergency vehicles in Sandoval County on Wednesday and Thursday.

The New Mexico Department of Health and the Sandoval County Office of Emergency Management say they will be conducting a full scale exercise in Sandoval County.

They say people who live there should expect to see an increase in emergency vehicles in the area on both days.

In a news release, the health department said the full scale exercise is part of the Center for Disease Control’s Cities Readiness Initiative, which is designed to enhance preparedness in the nation’s largest cities and metro areas.

Through the Readiness Initiative, state and large metropolitan health departments have developed plans to respond to large-scale public health events by dispensing antibiotics to the entire population of an identified Metropolitan Statistical Area within 48 hours.
