La Mesa teacher placed on administrative leave

A special education teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools has been placed on paid administrative leave after witnesses reporting seeing her abuse an autistic boy.
Witnesses told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that they saw the teacher from La Mesa Elementary School shaking the boy and screaming at him while the class was at McDonald's on a school field trip.
The woman who saw it said the teacher refused to get the boy food because the boy's mother hadn't sent him with any money. The witness said when the boy cried as all the other children ate, the teacher became more violent.
"As he cried louder, she then grabbed him off his chair by the back of his shirt and dragged him by his chest to the restroom, where she then pinned down his legs by pinching his thighs, and putting her forehead against his forehead and screaming at him," the witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
APS released this statement about the incident Wednesday afternoon:
"As is the process when these sorts of allegations are made, the principal immediately informed Albuquerque Public Schools Police and APS Human Resources and they began an investigation.
The teacher was placed on paid administrative leave today (Wednesday), while the investigation continues.
