RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez is set to announce New Mexico's 2012 high school graduation rate.
The Republican governor is scheduled Thursday to unveil new numbers at Rio Rancho High School and outline her proposals aimed at preventing more students from dropping out of high school.
The federal government reported in November that 2010-2011 preliminary data showed New Mexico having one of the worst four-year high school graduation rates in the nation.
The U.S. Department of Education reported that New Mexico had a graduation rate of 63 percent rate, just ahead of Nevada, the state with the lowest in the country.
The 2010-2011 academic year was the first time all states used uniform standards to measure the number of students who graduated.
