SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The state Department of Workforce Solutions says it has cleared up a backlog involving unemployment benefit claims by more than 3,000 people.

Department spokeswoman Joy Forehand says a fix made to the department's new computer system freed up almost 7,000 weeks of benefits for the claimants.

Forehand says there were unusually long delays after the new system came on line earlier this month.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that reasons cited for the delays included a last-minute federal extension of emergency benefits and new standards and procedures implemented by the state.
