Scam artists strike Albuquerque neighborhoods

Residents in several Albuquerque neighborhoods are warning about a late night scammer going door-to-door.
The residents are realizing the similar stories through social media sites. They say the woman knocks on your door after midnight with an elaborate story about needing money to get to Belen.
"Her daughter is with the police right now in Belen and she needs money for gas to get out there. But before all this started, she claims that she was our neighbor," one resident told us that's the story she heard.
Another resident miles away heard a very similar story.
"I am your neighbor. I need your help. My baby daddy has been arrested and he's in Belen, and I need to get my 2-year-old who's with the police. I need gas money," the resident described the story she was told.
Homeowner Nicole Algarra fears the woman is with a group casing homes for home invasions.
"If my husband didn't answer or if we didn't have the dogs, maybe they would have tried to bum rush and tried to invade our house," Algarra said.
Albuquerque police advise homeowners not to stay quiet if someone comes to your door. They say you don't have to open the door, but they say to make sure the person there knows the house is not empty and therefore easy to break into.
