An investigation is underway after a student alleged they were roughed up Thursday by a Rio Rancho Public Schools teacher.

Rio Rancho police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 the incident took place in a classroom, but would not say if anyone has been arrested in connection to the incident.

The Rio Rancho Public Schools District also confirmed that it is investigating an alleged incident involving inappropriate contact between a student and teacher, though not of sexual nature.

District officials would not state the name of the teacher accused in the incident, but told KOB 4 the teacher started with the school district last October and is currently on paid administrative leave.

Based on the findings of the investigation, disciplinary consequences could include termination, district officials said.
