Denver suburb tests pot legalization law

DENVER (AP) - An ordinance passed in the Denver suburb of Greenwood Village could test how far cities can go to keep marijuana out of their communities now that the drug is legal in Colorado.
The Denver Post reports the city council has banned marijuana on public streets and sidewalks, making it illegal to drive with an otherwise legal amount of pot.
Because residents can't bring marijuana to their homes, the only way to legally possess it is to grow it. But the city is expected to pass another ordinance that controls growing at home to address concerns about mold and fire hazards.
Backers of the amendment that legalized the use and possession of up to an ounce of marijuana say people should be able to exercise constitutional liberties in public places.
