Polls are now open for an Albuquerque Public Schools and Central New Mexico Community College election for bond issues and board seats.

APS is asking voters to approve candidates for board districts 3, 5, 6 and 7 on the APS board.

APS is also asking voters to consider approving $368 million in capital funding that will renovate, renew and restore school facilities. That includes $200 million in general obligation bonds and a $168 million mil levy over six years.

Some key projects include the completion of rebuilding of Del Norte and Sandia high schools, constructing a new K-8 school on the Southwest Mesa, additions at Rio Grande and West Mesa high schools and rebuilding Mountain View Elementary.

Technology upgrades for classrooms also are included.

About $30 million would go toward educational technology notes sold to provide the funding for networks and computers. Voter approval of the package will not raise taxes.

At the same time Tuesday and in some of the same polling places, CNM will hold elections for its governing board.

Voters will be asked to decide five seats. Districts 1 and 2 are contested, and Districts 3, 5 and 7 are not.
