ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - A law enforcement task force will investigate the death of a man said to have collapsed after Roswell police subdued him when he resisted arrest.

Cody Towler died Monday after officers were sent to an alley in response to a call about a disorderly person, according to the Roswell Daily Record. Police spokeswoman Sabrina Morales says the 38-year-old man was beating a trash can with a baton.

She says Towler collapsed when officers detained him after he resisted arrest. The Office of Medical Investigators in Albuquerque will conduct an autopsy.

A task force that includes the New Mexico State Police, the Chaves County Sheriff's Office and Roswell police will conduct an investigation.

Morales says the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation's completion.
