GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - A Gallup-area man has been charged with embezzling over $20,000 from a New Mexico nonprofit that provides trail rides.

A criminal complaint accuses 62-year-old Michael Mataya of embezzling from Chuck Wagon Trail Riders Inc. The organization lists a Thoreau address in Public Regulation Commission records.

According to the Gallup Independent, a McKinley County sheriff's investigator said in a court document that the organization's president reported being concerned about Mataya withdrawing money from the organization's bank account.

An online court docket indicates that Mataya hasn't yet entered a plea to the charge filed Friday in Gallup Magistrate Court. The docket doesn't indicate that he has an attorney.
