An Albuquerque man is behind bars after he escaped while in handcuffs last week.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies told KOB Eyewitness News 4 they were taking Jose Armijo into custody for a probation violation last Wednesday when he managed to take off running.

A criminal complaint states the deputy who ran after him tripped and hurt his head, and that’s how Armijo got away.

Deputies used phone records to track Armijo down to a home near Indian school and Morris Wednesday.
