There was a courtroom full of emotion Thursday afternoon as a jury found the man accused in the death of his 4-month-old daughter guilty.
Robert Flores was a former Artesia High School football star quarterback.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 was the only news station in the courtroom as the verdict came down.
The courtroom was packed with family and friends in support of baby Kalynne. They waited five years for justice and there were lots of tears and hugs as they finally got it.
Guilty of child abuse resulting in death and tampering with evidence, Flores remained stern, without any sign of emotion throughout the trial.
Kalynne was only four months old when she was found dead in a laundry basket inside a closet. Prosecutors said, Flores put her there and forgot about her while he went to buy beer. The defense maintained her death was a tragic accident.
Family members of the victim joined together in prayer outside the courthouse in honor of the little girl.
"We love you very much Kalynne and we miss you, we will always miss you, you will always be in our hearts," Yvonne granados, Kalynne's cousin, said.
"She was my little pride and joy and one day I'll be with her again," Gracie Tesillo, Kalynne's grandmother, said.
Family members of Flores refused to comment on his behalf.
Flores faces up to 21 years in prison.
A sentencing date hasn't been scheduled yet.
