DEMING, N.M. (AP) - Luna County Sheriff Raymond Cobos is denying knowledge of corruption within his department after allegations made in the trial of a Deming couple and their son linked to a 2011 gun raid.

The Deming Headlight reports that Cobos says allegations made by defense attorneys were the first he's heard about any of his deputies' credibility.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Brack ordered last week a new trial after defense attorneys said prosecutors failed to turn over evidence that could have challenged the credibility of a Luna County Sheriff's deputy.

A jury convicted Rick and Terri Reese and their son, Ryin, in August of making false statements. They were acquitted of most of the charges stemming from an investigation in which undercover agents posed as straw gun buyers.
