The head of the state's Workforce Solutions Department got grilled Friday by state lawmakers.
They wanted answers on the new online claims system that caused headaches for thousands of unemployed New Mexicans.
People who had trouble with the system were left on hold or standing in line for hours trying to get help.
Department Secretary Celine Bussey continued to is defend her department's switchover to the $45 million system as a relatively smooth one.
She added her department does its best to take care of all the unemployed. And even those at rock bottom get help at Workforce Connections offices.
"DWS does provide computers in those offices for individuals who may not have a home computer - they are able to access those in a community service aspect and then there are also phones available in those local offices for individuals that may not have a cell phone,” Bussey said.
State lawmakers want more information from Workforce Solutions about wait times and call volume. They're also looking into having the Legislative Finance Committee investigate how claims were processed.
