Woman dies after crash with Albuquerque police officer

A woman died after an accident that involved an on duty Albuquerque Police Department officer.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after the officer turned from Paseo del Norte onto Eagle Ranch Road and hit a traveling SUV, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Cpt. Jessica Tyler said.

The officer, who has not been identified, was reportedly trying to locate a possible drunk driver before the accident.

Ashley Browder, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene.The driver Lindsey Browder, 19, was transported to UNM Hospital with a fractured spine and broken hip.

The police officer was also sent to the hospital as a precaution.
