Albuquerque police are trying to figure out why a body showed up along Coors near Eagle Ranch Road on Sunday morning.

Police said a passerby spotted the person lying on the shoulder of the road.

When emergency crews arrived they pronounced the person dead.

Officers on the scene said it appeared the body was a woman, but they did not know if the female was an adult.

Police said the body had trauma, but they were uncertain if the woman had been hit by a car.

Officers shut down Coors Boulevard near the area where the body was found for several hours and it shook up at least one person in the community.

"All kinds of people are saying they saw a dead girl right there. And I didn't believe it but then the workers were talking about it. And then I saw the cops there," Marcus Peña said.

APD is calling the death a possible homicide.

The woman was clothed and officers said there were no suspicious emergency calls overnight that could explain why they found the body Sunday morning.

The Office of the Medical Investigator has yet to identify the body.
