To an untrained eye, this building might not look like much, but for the Bloomfield Fire Department, it's an important tool for an efficient staff.

The fire department just put the finishing touches on its new training facility.

The building has a downstairs and an upstairs burn room and a three story-repel wall for training.

Before this was built, firefighters had to go up to Farmington once a year to train. But now that they have this facility, it’s going to make training a lot easier.

According to Captain John Mohler, frequent training preps the department for the real life emergencies.

"There's not as many structure fires as there once was, so it's a task that we need to train on more to be proficient," said Mohler.

And for fire fighters like Mike Prince, the training is also a reminder that his profession is unique.

"Not many people get to do what we do, we get trained how to do it safely so that's great," said Prince.

It's a development that's not just great for the fire department, but for the city as well.
