SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A cemetery in Santa Fe is constructing a wall to keep out prairie dogs that have plagued the graveyard for decades.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports  that Fairview Cemetery is constructing 3-foot-high steel-reinforced concrete wall topped with more than 3 feet of chain-link fence. The project is expected to be completed by late March when prairie dogs begin to emerge from winter hibernation.

A firm was hired last year to capture and relocate the colonies of prairie dogs within 50 feet on their side of the wall.

The masonry wall will prevent prairie dogs on the outside from looking into the cemetery.

The chain-link fence that will top the masonry wall is to prevent vandals from getting insid.
