Isotopes license plates might be coming to NM

New Mexicans are a tiny bit closer to being able to drive around with Albuquerque Isotopes license plates on their cars.
A key House committee unanimously passed a bill that would create a special Albuquerque Isotopes plate for purchase by New Mexicans.
Proceeds from the license plates would be passed on to the Public Education Department to support high school sports around the state.
The bill, sponsored by House Majority Whip Antonio Maestas, made it out of the Transportation and Public Works committee Wednesday and now heads to the House Business and Industry Committee.
According to a news release, the bill is “revenue neutral,” because $10 from each purchased license plate would go to the Motor Vehicle Department to cover the cost of the manufacturing the plates.
"The Isotopes are interwoven into the fabric of the New Mexico community and this legislation is yet another example of how much people love their Isotopes," said Isotopes general manager John Traub.
"We are humbled by New Mexico's support since coming to town in 2003 and are grateful to Representative Maestas and the committee for supporting this bill."
