NM man gets probation in pronghorn killing spree

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico man who worked briefly as a horse wrangler at the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico has been ordered to serve 18 months of supervised probation for his role in the killing of several pronghorn antelope.
Court records show 20-year-old Clark Reik pleaded no contest earlier this month to five counts of unlawful hunting as well as charges of tampering with evidence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The investigation started when police responded to a pickup truck that had rolled over in a pasture south of Raton in May 2011.
State game wardens followed the truck's tracks for about 10 miles, discovering the carcasses of several dead pronghorn along the way. Some had been run over and others shot.
Authorities also found beer cans stashed in the area following the rollover.
