A Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering Monday morning after being hit by a car at around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies told KOB that they were investigating a crash at Bridge and La Vega SW when a car drove through the scene and hit the deputy.

The driver has been identified at Damian Necochea, 22.

He has been charged with aggravated battery on a police officer and is being held on $15,000 cash-surety bond.

The injured deputy was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

Deputies said they also heard shots fired during the incident.

However, that part of the incident is still under investigation.

The deputies are on standard paid administrative leave.
